Bajai Boot Camp 6: Running Session Part XXIX
(10-27-16)
Candles, cup of tea and a three-and-a-half hour music mix simply entitled "Let's Play Music," and I'm ready for this labor of love that feels like a chore today. Thanks to my decision to run 30 times in as many days as it takes, to video-blog (vlog) it and write about it, whether I actually run or not, I get to write every day. It's good practice. I enjoy weaving words in and out of thoughts.. or is that the other way around? Either way, right now it feels like a chore. But I've got the previously mentioned three elements to keep me company. A lover would be the perfect fourth element for a rainy autumn evening of creativity. Then, of course I wouldn't get this episode done.
It's Day 29 - no run; no squats, due to rain. I did walk close to two miles today. I timed it. It was 14 minutes one way. There were five pounds of nuts in my bag on the way back so it probably took a bit longer. I estimate the required thirty minutes. I'd be done with the squats-work by now anyway and getting to this social media (soshe-med) "work" anyway, so I'm on schedule.
Today started normally enough; up before dawn and stretching the lower back and hammies (back thighs) and twisting. I'm not sore in the mornings. That comes later in the day, just about 20-24 hours after the workout.
The first clue I had that it might rain today was the umbrellas carried by my fellow morning communters who were clearly better informed than I. Doesn't matter, I carry an umbrella in my pack at all (or most) time anyway.
The day seemed to suck the life right out of me. It's darker in the mornings now. The clouds blocked the sun, signaling rain. There wasn't much to do at the gig; there seldom is - plus I'm a short-timer - 40-something days until I'm out. The combination didn't help keep me alert. Ha ha, good thing I don't have to be... alert, that is.
I made it through the workday, then took the train ride down to the South end where they keep the stadiums (or would that be stadia?) - to pick up my nuts. That's where I shot today's update and got my walk in. Not a very exciting day, however a rare, but true day of rest, recovery and relaxation.
Tomorrow is an off (work) day. I intend to get up and run before breakfast, weigh in - which is a cheat weigh in - and see what the day brings. I might just go to the YMCA and do some body-weight work, or actually lift dumbbells. It might be interesting to see how much power-strength I've lost due to this running business. Since tomorrow is Day 30, I might compile some data to present. Remember, this is an experiment to see if I can lose weight by running.
Which reminds me; I think, even before I started the running thing, I quit eating an "outside" lunch on the gig. Before I'd go to the salad bar and get anywhere from half to just over a pound of food; greens, turkey, chicken or salmon... or sometimes all three, cottage cheese (more recently) and some extras like avocados, peppers, tomatoes and such. I've conditioned myself to due with 16 oz. of tea, apple or banana and a yogurt. On that fuel and my homemade trail mix, I come home run a couple of miles and then eat, generally before 20:00. This new eating strategy may have something to do with maintaining the weight loss (below 180). When (because it's a 'when' and not an 'if') I stop running I wonder how quickly (if at all) the weight will return. That's part of the experiment also.
This experiment also suggests that it talks me fifteen runs to make a break through. I also learned I shouldn't try and run more than three days in a row. Three might even be pushing it. However, since the body does grow, change and adapt, I may be able to up the run frequency by a few days... next... time.
Thanks for reading.
Stay Tuned for Part XXX (Triple X, ought to be good.)
