Making 2018 A Little Better

in #life9 years ago

Hello everyone! I hope each and every one of you is doing well this afternoon. We are officially one week into January. Most of you are probably settling back into rigid work or school schedules. With this, so many of us have already adopted a New Year’s resolution...or many for that matter. I usually do set a few myself, but this year I wanted to try something different.

A majority of people - or what seems like a majority - always seem to set weight goals or diet goals. I encourage you to try and get away from that. While it is wonderful to set a goal to lose weight, it can also be very difficult to achieve. Try to simply set a health goal. And remember health can pertain to your physical health yes, but also mental health. It is very important to take care of your mind.

  • Drink more water and record it to keep yourself in check
  • Switch out tea for coffee every other day
  • Cut out two unhealthy foods
  • Pick up a book and read instead of scrolling through facebook
  • Do a sudoku puzzle each morning

These types of goals are a lot easier to accomplish. One important thing I think many people don’t realize regarding New Year’s resolutions is that they don’t have to last all year. You can set a goal for New Year’s and then continue setting goals once you have accomplished the previous one. Once you accomplish little things you can keep moving forward and set new goals. Use this year to create a progression of goals.

If you’re looking for a resolution pertaining to food try: Cutting out two unhealthy foods in January, and adding one new food. Then in February try cutting out another two unhealthy foods and adding two new foods.
If you think you need to reform your sleep schedule: Go to bed ten minutes earlier than you do now in January. Then increase to twenty minutes in February.

The point is you can take any goal and break it down so it is achievable. You will be much more inclined to complete simple tasks each month than a large goal for the whole year.

I encourage everyone to look at New Year’s resolutions a little differently. Approach the year in a new way. You don’t have to reinvent yourself. Just consider a few things.

Appreciate the sunny days a little more.

When you’re stuck in traffic try to enjoy the pause.

Understand that life doesn’t have to be as stressful as many of us make it.

Appreciate the time spent with family and friends.

I wish you all good luck with the New Year, including all those New Year’s resolutions out there. Have a wonderful year everyone. Thank you to all of my readers.

Jenna :)
