Learning From Germany | One Prison At A Time
I came across something very interesting recently. It’s not really something I would usually post about, but I was fascinated by the design aspect...of German prisons. This might sound rather strange, but as I learned more, the more interested I became. German prisoners live in rooms, much like college dorms...and they have their own keys.
After reading about it, I started searching for videos that showed what it was really like. I think this 60 Minutes piece effectively explains the circumstances of German prisons. | https://www.cbsnews.com/news/60-minutes-presents-behind-bars-prison/
In the United States our prison systems well... they’re far from what they could be. The US is putting more and more people into prison, and spending large amounts of money on doing so.
German prisons on the other hand are working well; their populations have been decreasing since 2004, while the US populations are on the rise. The US also spends more on their prison system.
I think the US could learn a lot from these German ideas.
