I've passed a lot of soft skill trainings and the most important rule is to remember that audience always want you to win! It's something called psychology of the crowd - if few people like you and they express that by applauding, all of them will start applauding. They are not speaker's enemies, so before speaking you can relax and raise confidence and if some lapse happens - the show always must go on.
The beginning is the most important part of the work. When we speak, we have about 60 seconds to capture our audience's attention, establish credibility, orient them to our topic, and motivate them to listen.

Yes, I agree and there is very important KISS rule - Keep It Short and Simple :)
