I get that issue #40 is out next week. But the drive for back issues is real.

If you're new to Old Man Logan (and the Marvel Universe at the moment), our characters have been thrown into the Wastelands.

In a turn of events, our heroes have found themselves backed into a corner as (somehow) all the baddies agreed to work together (as if). The result led to the Wastelands. It's a future where the place has gone to shit and there's not much but browns, reds and 'Hulk Greens' in a Mad Max-type setting. The heroes got their butts kicked.

Skip back to the present.

The man from Kelowna continues his run with the short tempered shorty. What's Ed Brisson offering up in May's book?

Of course, we've got a bit of time travel here. Logan finds himself in New York after a confrontation in Japan involving the locals and a concoction called "Regenix". You guessed it. It's a chemical designed to regenerate lost limbs. Sounds fun! Well, this isn't My Little Pony and everything isn't rainbows and sunshine for users. Logan's healing screwed up in previous issues and his encounter with The Hand required a special injection. He survived, but he's essentially swapped one problem for another.

Logan's new entanglement.

Coming to New York City, you'd think you'd have some fun, right? Well, maybe. Logan finds a bar and meets a few locals.

In this issue you'll love some gore, may not necessarily be surprised by who gets knocked about and you'll be introduced to Wilson Fisk's new muscle.

If you know anything about cards and sais, you probably know who to expect. It isn't Raph and Remy.

I feel like not so much happened in this issue. It was a chance to introduce the new character which I feel will be fleshed out in the remaining two issues of the story. While I do like having all issues in a run, and people have historically valued number one's more than the others, the basics could really be summed up on the inside of the cover to get us off and racing. This is actually what I love about Matthew Reilly's books (not comics!). He's fast paced.

As far as the art is concerned, there are parts of the book I liked more than others. Wilson Fisk wasn't drawn to my liking in a panel and it spoiled the page for me. Call me petty. However, the following double page made up for it. Carlos Lopez contrasted cool and warm colours with his inking perfectly. The choice to leave white on the background on the second of these two pages made Logan's image pop.

The artwork doesn't have the appeal as much as someone like Marco Checchetto has for me, but it's certainly a style that lends itself to easy panel transition and plot development. It's just a bummer that there wasn't a great hurry along here considering this was the first of just a three part story.

What I loved. Honestly.

I'm loving Mike Deodato and Carlos Lopez's covers. Wolverine cornered in an alley isn't going to end well for that guy.

It was nice to see Logan getting grumpy at a bar after being offered craft beer. Here's to you, Ed. Nice bit of Logan charm, there.

Remarks for opportunity. [Also, honest.]

The pace was too slow for me. Maybe I'm having a weird night. It just felt slow for me. Or maybe there weren't the full 32 pages? It didn't feel like it. And I'm somehow not scared of the Kingpin.. I mean, Wilson Fisk. He just seems like another Trumped-up wannabe. You hearin' me, bub?

I’m still looking for an artist to cover my work on my fantasy saga, Adventures in Elowyn Glade. Please make some noise if you’re interested.
