Kill Or Be Killed #18 [SPOILERS][EXPLICIT].

I am finding it very hard to resist talking about Kill or Be Killed. Brubaker, Phillips and Breitweiser compel you to read, stop and admire. Rinse and repeat.

I know I rambled on last month about all the good things that Image are doing with the current titles. One could argue that The Walking Dead still retains their flagship position among a solid group of very strong titles. However, it wasn't my favourite read this month.

Where's Dylan this issue? Don't worry, Brubaker's introduced a lady that you'll want to follow.

Spoilers. This is your last warning.

While Dylan's still cooped up in the psych hospital, an enthusiastic, over eager fucker has been ripping loose trying to take up the infamous red mask. Trouble is, this dipshit ended up in a shootout with cops. And got himself blown to kingdom come.

I love how shit's still going down even while Dylan's out of action. Of course, Dylan's our narrator so he's effectively still with us whispering in our ear.

Creepy? Nah.

It's the black form of Dylan's evil demon pal you've got to be concerned about. Even moreso, because we haven't seen that spikey-toothed mofo for so many issues. I've just lost count.

Who's the broad?

We are introduced to Lily Sharpe. She's a detective involved in the case of the masked vigilante. Despite having the positive ID on the previously mentioned dipshit, Buck Thomson and the case being closed after mounting evidence, she doesn't let up.

Copycat killer. Original still at large.

We all know Dylan's the original bad-ass, but it becomes increasingly apparent that Lily does too, no thanks to that fucker of an ex-roommate, Mason. Talk about a wanker. I want to see Dylan come at him. He's the sort of slimy pus-sac that does your girlfriend and bolts at the first creak in the floorboards.

It's a good thing Dylan's off his meds because he's going to need to have his wits about him.

All of Lily's work led her to discuss her findings with Steve, one of the members of the Joint Task Force.

Problem is, he's connected to the Russians (the same Russians that Dylan fucked up a while back).

Why do I love this book?

Oh hell.. it has everything I want in a story. I'm sure I've said this all before but, by Zeus, it needs repeating.

This whole issue was detectives doing their thing. No Batman bullshit. Just phone calls, coroner's clinics and rummaging through boxes of porn, guns and paintings of demons in Dylan's mum's attic. Usual detective work.

If Dylan somehow manages to keep safe from the fucking Russians who now know he's the mastermind they've been searching for, I can't wait to see how Lily interrogates Dylan. He isn't stupid. And that demon is real. Very real.

The demon's dirty work.

While I'd love for Brubaker to have the demon show up and do some killing of his own when it gets dire for our protagonist when the Russians show up, I just don't know how that would work with the demon's motivations.

Wait.. Do we even need to bother considering the motivations of a demon? Maybe this whole time, he is just messing with Dylan. Maybe he had no hand in saving Dylan from his fateful jump. Not all suicide attempts go to plan. And if we have learned anything from evil spirits in pop culture, we know they are deceitful, manipulative and least likely to be honorable.

Dylan's probably just being fucked with. And I'm okay with that.

Not a good reason, but I have just never been one for the genre. I'm sorry for speaking the words of a non believer, a yet to be converted steemit poster.

Non believer? Or just not a fan of the genre?

Yes. This is subjective stuff! Thanks for dropping by, mate!

A non believer in the virtues of the genre maybe.
I have always been that way. It is my limitation. Though I do enjoy the comic/graphic novel artwork style

I agree. I'm loving the art. It is absolute divinity, right there.

All the best.
