As it is almost 10.30pm Monday evening - our first night back in Wollongong after two very pleasant nights away, I wanted to post at least an introduction to our escape away to Wombeyan Caves, NSW.

Please tell me how you managed to survive for a few days without my incessant musings.

Congratulations.

I expect this camping series to continue for at least a few more days into this week considering the quantity of ideas and stories I wanted to share with you all, beloved readership.

Apparently I visited Wombeyan Caves as a child, but remember none of it.

As we were climbing Macquarie Pass, our chosen route to the Caves, my Dad called. We were having a yarn about the camping trip and he remembers taking us kids out there.

I didn't recall any of it. Given enough time, you can have 'firsts' of places you've already visited. Thanks, imperfect memory! What he failed to mention was the sheer length of unsealed roads to get out there! Far out! Don't take my reaction as a negative one, though. If this was your daily drive, you might get annoyed having to drive in excess of 60km to the nearest town at an average speed of 35km/h. But when it's an adventure, different roads just add to the excitement. The distance really surprised me. When you feel how long it takes to drive this far (slowly), it adds some perspective, here.

It was worth it! And I can't wait to share some more moments with you. Some of the things you least expect to grab your attention while camping captured mine. It had nothing to do with sleeping under the stars and hiking through the bush.

Expect more in the coming days including animal encounters, camping styles, the essence of tranquility, campground improvements, bringing your life for the ride and adventures by foot.
