Dolphins: Slaughter in Taiji, Japan
I’m writing this today to raise awareness of the shocking problem that is happening in Taiji Japan. When I found out that 23,000 dolphins were getting slaughtered every year I was shocked that I’ve never heard about this earlier.
The Hunt:

During September each year, the fishermen in hundreds drive out in their boats with big steel polls extending into the water. They then intercept the migrating dolphins as they smack the top of the steel polls with a mallet. This creates a wall of sound waves through the water which scares the dolphins and drives them towards a small cove. Once the hundreds of hoarded dolphins are pushed by the wall of sound into the small cove the fishermen extend nets across the entrance of the cove trapping the dolphins in.
The Kidnap
After a night in the cove dolphin trainers from all over the world go down to the cove to hand pick dolphins to take back to their countries to train them. Trainers could pay up to $150,000 for a dolphin. After the trainers have picked the dolphins that met their requirements the horrible and hard to believe part of this story happens.
The Slaughter
All the remaining dolphins that were not chosen then get pulled by small boats around another hidden part of the cove. With sharp spears and knives the fisherman mass slaughter the dolphins leaving injured calves swimming around in the blood struck water.
I hope this post has raised more attention on this serious issue and I hope most of all it will motivate people to speak out against this senseless slaughtering of dolphins.
