The ski resort "Shymbulak" is located in the picturesque gorge of the Zailiysky Alatau at an altitude of 2260 m above sea level.
The resort was founded in 1954. Since the mid-1950s, Shymbulak was a training base for Soviet skiers, the USSR and Kazakhstan championships were held on its slopes.
In preparation for the 2011 Winter Asian Games, large-scale works were carried out to reconstruct the ski resort. The total length of the trails from 6 km is increased by an average of three times. In the most busy areas, the skiing area is expanded 10-20 times. On the ski slopes are installed snow cannons, which allow you to start the season earlier and extend it.
Also during the reconstruction of the resort were built the newest cable cars, which increased the capacity of the resort several times.
