DIY Old Hotel Dresser Refinished & Reused

in #life7 years ago

Since I'm new here (3 days) most people don't know that I like to recycle old furniture. When I was young, I never thought that I'd get gitty over going to a farmers market or an antique shop. But, for whatever reason, I do! I haven't done a project in a while, probably been a year or so. Thought I'd share this in case anyone else had anything old, thinking of throwing out, which is such a waste!

The Find

I had a buddy who does long distance construction at major colleges around the U.S. He recently stayed in Louisiana at an extended stay for about a year while he over saw a project at a local college. At the end of the year, they let him keep everything in the hotel room. He knew I liked to fix stuff up and asked if I wanted it. Sure I thought, my son was on the way, why not use some of it for his room.

Before

Run of the mill prefab drawers in an old hotel room. Sturdy though, made in Vietnam.

After

Sanded it down with an electric sander with a medium rough grit paper. Only took about an hour or so. Didn't get too involved, just wanted to strip the coating a bit for the paint to stick.

Changed out the knobs for some I found at Home Depot that matched the length. Paint went on without an issue, only had to use 1 quart and about two layers. Took about half a day, was a breeze.

Zesty Apple by Behr, also found at Home Depot.

Let me know what you think and if you have any re-purpose questions feel free to give me a shout!

As this seems to be a hobby, what would be really good are some images of the process - that would make a great article. Thanks!

Wow, it turned out great and such an eye catching color. :)

Thank you! I think it goes good with the blue/gray paint I picked out. Makes it pop a little.

I agree! It pairs well :)

Nice job man! Turned out really cool. I can relate to that feeling when walking into an antique shop, as I am the same way. Keep up the good work!
