A man was walking through the elephant camp, and he saw that the elephants were not kept in cages or held in chains.
All that kept them out of the camp was a rope tied to one of their legs.
When the man looked at the elephants, he was truly confused as to why the elephants didn't just use their strength to break the rope and escape the camp. They can easily do it, but on the contrary, they don't try at all.
Curious and wanting to know the answer, he asked a trainer nearby why the elephants just stood there and never tried to escape.
The trainer answered;
“When they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it is enough to hold them. When they grow up, they are conditioned to believe that they cannot escape. They believed the rope could still hold them, so they never tried to break free. "
The only reason the elephants did not break free and escape the camp was because over time they adopted the belief that it was impossible.
Moral of the story:
No matter how much the world tries to hold you back, always continue with the belief that what you want to achieve is possible. Believing that you can be successful is the single most important step in actually achieving it.
