Very cool story! I taught myself to play the guitar too if there's any newbies out there learning to play guitar my advice to you! Your fingertips are going to hurt and bleed until you build some calluses on your fingertips I recommend using super glue for artificial calluses.

I had quit playing for several years and when I took it up again I tried using new skin or liquid bandage, something to cover my fingertips, and found I just had to gut it out until I got the calluses.
