Suicide; cowardice or the way out?
Suicide is the act or an instance of taking one's own life voluntarily and intentionally especially by a person of years of discretion and of sound mind. (Merriam Webster Dictionary)
Each year, several case of suicide is recorded all over the world. People who are tired of life who no longer want to live. Several reasons have been assumed to be the cause. Reasons ranging from depression, addiction, mental illness, etc.
The first time I ever wrote about suicide, I had a very myopic view of the topic. I was writing from the view of the spectator and wholly supported the fact that suicide is cowardice. I never considered that there might be another reason; reason why the one who committed suicide did it.
Although I've learnt not to judge suicide as cowardice, I still do not fully support the fact that it is the way out. Way out from what? From the pain? The agony? The rejection or whatsoever?
Suicide may not be cowardice because it actually takes a lot of nerves and courage to make that decision of taking one's own life. Take a knife to your throat or stand in front of a train and tell me how easy that could be? Most people who commits suicide have hold on for too long and can't seem to continue.
Here is another view to it why I believe it is not the way out. Suicide does not stop anything, it only ends your existence. It doesn't solve it evade the problem, it is still right there.
I know there are ways to end suicide. I know that may seem impossible but I think it's worth giving a try. Every individual who have committed suicide might have decided to live if only some things will work their own way.
Have you ever been at the verge of committing suicide or know of anyone who was but overcame? Please don't be selfish share your experience.
