Growing up physically is inevitable if you keep living and eating. To grow up emotionally and mentally is another ball game entirely. It involves changing from childish things, reactions and responses to newer, mature responses and thought patterns. This change would never take place in your life until you own the process of change itself. You must own it, taking total responsibility for your change.

You need both an external influence for change as well as an internal conviction that gives you the push to move forward. The reason why some people react negatively to correction is because they don't have the internal conviction to match the external influence. People who cannot handle honest criticism or correction can be said to be immature.

If you notice in your personal assessment or from other people's feedback, that there are things you need to work on, you must take deliberate steps to correct them. Find out what those who are doing it right are doing, read books, ask for help from more experienced people, etc.

Identify people who are also changing like you and separate yourself from those who are just aging. Those who are not growing, those who have expectations you cannot meet, will only draw you back or slow you down. Work and walk only with those who are growing in the same direction that you are headed.

Stop dreaming of opportunities 'there' while remaining 'here'. You must make the necessary sacrifices needed to move from one level of maturity to the other. With maturity comes a great deal of hitherto unimaginable benefits. Own you change people! Take the necessary steps! Be responsible! Grow up!
