WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT COMMITMENT?
Being committed is the ability or act of doing what you say you would do, not just some of the time but all of the time no matter the conditions involved. To get the trust of others and even to trust in our own capabilities, we have to build ourselves in the area of commitments.
Hello there! I hope you had a great weekend and are already getting prepared to crush this new week? Today you would be reading on the issue of commitments and what the bible says about it. Technically, we won’t be going all religious in case that is what you think this is all about. Rather, we would be discussing on this topic from a more realistic and applicable stand point of life and citing a few points from the bible. Enjoy yourself while reading this and try to learn from it.
“Lord, who may dwell in your sanctuary? Who may live in your holy hill? He...who Keeps his oath even when it hurts” - PSALMS 15:1, 4 NIV
With the busy schedules, distractions and changing circumstances we face in this present time of life, it isn’t always easy to keep to our commitments but in order to get the trust and respect of others, it is necessary we learn to keep to our words.
Commitments involve planning, which is why without commitments being made, all we have is just promises and hope…but no plans. No matter what we plan to achieve in life, without strict commitment to it, it may just end up a dream or wish. Commitment is the life of all accomplishments.
We need to understand that in order to trust our own self and also gain the trust of others; we must clearly consider all conditions before making commitments. We do not want to be known for not fulfilling our words. Most times, commitments are made during the heat of a moment, only to leave us to discover late that those commitments might be hard or impossible to keep. Always think before making a vow, oath, pledge or commitment.
“As for me, I will walk in my integrity” – PSALM 26:11
We should learn to let God be our example when it comes to keeping commitments. He always keeps to His words. He never fails. He puts the resources of heaven and Earth behind every commitment He has made to us in the scriptures. God is good and has promise that none of His words that he has spoken will come back to Him void, but will accomplish everything it was sent to do.
A Chinese proverbs says;
“He who lightly assents will seldom keep his words”
It is necessary to see that commitment is bedrock to achieving great things in life. Just like it is to persevere, you can hardly go through obstacles if you don’t tell yourself that whatsoever comes your way must be moved. We have to be into the habit of making commitments and keeping it; especially the ones we make for the benefit of our own growth. After all, if we deny ourselves commitment, how much can we really do with our lives?
