A team of researchers in the field of cyber security has carried out an experiment that puts our thoughts in mind.
A team of computer security experts, under the coordination of Robert Hickey of Homeland Security, managed to remotely take control of a passenger plane on the runway.

Practically, Robert could control the passenger plane controls even while the aircraft was at Atlantic City Airport in New Jersey.

Everything happened without the pilots realizing that someone else took over the plane's commands, Daily Mail writes.

The experiment was designed to see how easy it is for a hacker to be able to remotely control an airplane.

A Boeing official - a company that manufactured the remote controlled plane - says the test does not indicate "a major risk to airlines". That's because the test plane had an older system.

In the experiment, Robert Hickey took control of a Boeing 757. The test took place on September 21, 2016, but the result was announced only at the CyberSat Summit held in Virginia.

Hickey says that to take command of the plane, his team used a combination of radio frequencies used to communicate on board the aircraft.

Changing the code of aviation equipment, which is essential for a hacker's attack, takes nearly a year and costs over $ 1 million.
