This is exactly how all projects should work, especially something that is heavily involved. Any project that I work on always has achievement Milestones that come with a specific target completion date. It keeps you on track, keeps the momentum flowing, and on top of that forces you to sit down and actually look at what steps need to be taken to accomplish whatever end goal you are working towards.
