Just about twenty miles from my door you can get a little bit of literary history, because we are only a short drive from Angels Camp made famous by Mark Twain's Jumping Frog of Calaveras County, a tradition that survives to this day.

Looking for some California history walk with me through Columbia where gold was first found in 1849, the Main Street is a state park.
