Dirty stop-out-lates!

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Last night ended up being a late one for us.

Sat around under a large gazebo, around 20 of the people we've come to know as family sat chatting, listening to music and remembering those we've lost over the years.

Our little club has been going for 21 years and though we didn't have a rally the first two years, we all partied hard!

The club began with Jimmy and Ian, two brothers, well-known on the bike scene. They were 'in between clubs' and decided they'd like to start their own. The name was something that was bothering them, they just couldn't find one that fitted with their fun-loving attitude.

The brothers arrived at a rally run as an all-girl club The Buxom Sisters. I was a new member at the time.

The brothers set up their tents in a field and set about wandering around in the sunshine, watching friends and strangers arrive on their bikes.

Because it was female-oriented, a larger proportion than what is considered usual arrived for the party. The brothers sat at the entrance to the rally field and watched the women arrive.

I heard them discussing the lovely views and I stopped to listen.

Comments along the lines of, "Lovely arse," etc could be heard. I turned around and said to them,

"You're just a couple of perverts in leather!"

I could tell by their faces as they looked at me and then at each other that the germ of an idea was forming.

Later that day, the brothers begged, borrowed or stole a bed sheet from the pub and scrawled the now-immortal logo - Perverts in Leather.

And so PiL was born, or The Red Rash as it came to be known.

I refused to join the club until I could be member 100, but we partied with them from day 1.

Numbering more than 350 members now, the club is country-wide and the brothers' ethos of fun and shenanigans has spread like 'the red rash', changing bike rallies and parties forever.

This year, we lost Jimmy the older brother. He was killed in a car collision as he crossed the road at one of the rallies. Though Jimmy and Ian moved away from the club in order to start another, they were always welcomed with open arms and greeted like a brother to us all.

Jimmy will be sorely missed on the biking scene. His ethos can be summed up in the song we adopted as a club.

Rest in Peace, Jimmy.

I came for the pictures but stayed for the drama. Good friends, that is what this post is about. Friendship beyond all the daily nonsense.

Good job , nice post , carry on .

Your post is always different i follow your blog everytime , your post is so helpful . I always inspire of your post on my steem work . Thank you for sharing @michelle.gent

Keep good work of every time ...

Looks like you had some wild parties back in the day (or still do?). I also had my share of crazy parties, but now "I am too old for this shit" (c).

It is great that the club is still going after all these years. Many times you see clubs formed when folks are young and brash only to peter out as the collective group ages. It is a sad state of affairs as we get older, we start losing our friends one by one. A toast to your friend Jimmy...

Looks like a riot and lots of fun :) Sorry to hear about that fellow getting killed, though.

I really enjoy your weapons @michelle.gent
