School is not something, that most of us have much good memories about. Back in the 20th or even in the beggining of the 21st century parents were left with practically no choice of schooling for their children, there were only public schools or VERY expensive private schools. How's the thing nowadays though? As we can read in the 26th article of Declaration of Human Rights:

Parents have a prior right to choose the kind of education that shall be given to their children.

But, what kinds of education are there? Actually there is plenty, so do you have to go to a public school in order to not break your budget? Apparently no, you don't.

What is Alternative Education?

It's a group of methods of schooling different from traditional pedagogical approach
(Classrooms, teachers, tests etc.).
We can divide two types of alternative education:

  • Schooling based on curriculum, such as Umbrella Schools, where you're taught things, that are required by government, but everything is much more flexible and student-friendly

and more interesting one

  • Unschooling, which is based fully on developing students' interests and confronting them with everyday responsibilities

Methods of Alternative Education

It's an education provided entirely by parents, either by themselves or with help of a hired teacher. It can follow the curriculum or not depending on parents' decision, but every year homeschoolers have to take a knowledge test at a public school. Homeschooling is often chosen for the reason of low quality education of nearby schools, but also for ideological or religious reasons.

It's a view, that a child is naturally eager for knowledge in a carefully prepared enviroment. It deeply values comperhensive development of a child. In Montessori Education, it's the students, who choose activities, but only within prescribed range of options. There is freedom of movement in classroom. Students learn concepts through working with materials and there is always highly experienced teacher, who observes students' behavior and tendencies in order to discover their passions and abilities. How awesome is that?

It uses the same methods as Montessori education, but it's focused more on critical thinking, empathy and creativity, also forces more academical knowledge in further parts.

Here, students have full control over their education. Activities are chosen democratically. Student's and staff member's vote has the same value. Students learn everything when they need or want to, they're provided with materials and teachers to develop any interest. I think it's awesome, but not for everyone, because some people need specific timetable and strict rules to do their best, but for artistic people (like me) it would be the best place to develop themselves. Actually it's kinda like Steemit, isn't it?

My opinion

I think, that alternative education is the best way for people, who want to develop their creativity instead of killing it in normal school, who are open-minded and can take care of themselves without everyone telling them what they have to do. In public schools there is a lot to complain about. They teach values, that are good only for slave-workers and I wish they'd fix it and everyone would get proper education instead of brainwash, but I know it's almost impossible, so I'm gonna be supporting and promoting alternative education as much as I can.
