RE: Sex ed by romance novel

in #life8 years ago (edited)

Yes. This phrase is pure bs semantically, but it's perfect stylistically and that's where the real strength of this post lies. It appeals not to logic and reason but to a feeling and sensuality. No one reads the erotic writing to find the truth. They read it to get away from it.

Sort:

I gather we were raised VERY differently. I'll write about that I think. I actually do read erotic writing to find the truth. I didn't know about my body or orgasm. While a lot of erotica is ridiculous, I have found many books that are excellent at educating on how to have sex for pleasure, how to elicit pleasure, how to make requests, and that offer ideas for new physical positions/toys/actions I had never considered because I was never educated about sex other than being told it was something I would give my husband and if I gave it to anyone else I would be beaten and homeless.

You have some fucked up ideas on life.
I'm sorry you were raised by abusive people and brainwashed. Hopefully one day you wake up to reality.
Best of luck pushing your feminist narrative.

Thanks! Good luck with your skepticism!

No need for luck when it comes to logic, facts and reason.
lol

Thank you for answering.

I have absolutely no problem with women reading or writing erotic, as I have no problem with them watching porn. This, however, doesn’t mean that I think this writing is providing any philosophical, cultural or aesthetic value unless you read something of “marquis De Sade.”
This type of literature is designed not for discovering and revealing the truth, but rather as a relaxation and escape from nagging problems of banal reality.

Now, let me discuss the phrase
Often, unlike our husbands, we were married off young and virginal.

Unless you live somewhere on Arabic peninsula, I don’t see how it is you were “married off.” In the countries of the Western world, where a woman is equal in all respects, no one marries them off. Also, statistically, only about 3% of Americans wait until marriage to have sex. Thus, the semantic validity of the words “often” and “virginal” is also quite problematic.

On the other hand, the phrase itself is charming and stylistically beautifully balanced.

Cheers
