Royal Oak Farmer's Market - Volunteer Thank You Event
My dad is retired, and he volunteers a lot for the Royal Oak Farmer's Market events. These events are mostly liquor, beer, wine, and food events. You pay a fee, get it, try a bunch of food and drink, and go home. All the leftovers are kept by the event coordinators and given out in a "Thank You' event once a year. Since I volunteered a couple times last year, I got invited and went with my dad.
Above is some of the free food and bottles beers they gave out as prizes at the end of the event. Some pretty good stuff, from local craft breweries, 5th's of various alcohols, and wines.
Blake's Cider Mill started making hard cider a few years ago, and it is some good stuff. I had a couple of these during the event. Excellent!
This coffee stout from Big Lake Brewing in Holland, MI was really good. I am a big coffee stout guy, so when I saw they had this, had to try one.
About 125 people showed up for the thank you event. There was DJ with live music, people started dancing after the giveaway was done, and some awards were given out. My dad got a special "superhero" award for volunteering so much. He is known as the "coat check guy", as he normally helps out with the coat check.
Overall it was a fun time spent with my dad. Not my typical Tuesday night, and that's usually a good thing! Cheers!

On my short list of things I miss about Detroit are the Royal Oak Flea and cider and doughnuts at Blakes. Hitting them both on a Sunday in the fall is a good day! Thanks for the post and thank your Dad for me.
