Dropping it like it's hot! | Links, links and links everywhere!
I have always been talking about engagement in the Steemit community by replying back to those people that comment on your posts and also by going out there and commenting on our people's post, not just whales and dolphins and hoping for an upvote on your comment.
So good for you if you are already doing that but how are you in terms of engaging people in your Facebook messenger or Discord groups? How effective is the Post Promotions channel of various groups?
I have about 10 different Steem Discord groups and 3 Facebook Messenger groups. I am active in about 4 of those Discord groups and 2 Facebook Messenger groups. The rest I am ashamed to admit that I hardly have any time to visit.
A lot of people will get disappointed by this and I might even receive some backlash but I believe in honesty. I hardly check the Post Promotions Channel. There I have said it! Between the duties of mentoring, answering questions about Steemit, scouting for the promo-mentors, personal feedback sessions and curating posts. I really down have the bandwidth to be able to go through all the links.
Then you get some members that keep on reposting their links every hour and it's just hard to scroll up. No matter how many times you remind them to not do that we'll some people never learn and it's frustrating.
I maximize my time by using certain tags like psychology, fiction, motivation and steemitfamilyph (of course it's Ohana!) as some of the tags were I like to read and find new people. You choose topics that you are interested in.
I have unfollowed a lot of people so my feed is looking a lot leaner and I have GINA BOT alerting me when my favorite authors posts and of course any mentions so I can use my omnipresence powers and engage like a hero!
So is the post promotions channel useless then? Depends on you. Are you engaged with the community?
What do I do to get an upvote here?
My favorite word in Steemit, ENGAGE. You need to engage with people. You need to talk to them, socialize for Pete's sake! Steemit is a social platform! You can't just post your entry and then you are gone. Get people to care enough to look at your work.
It is hard and it will take time but once they are engaged enough it will be worth it. You'll have a follower who would most likely upvote and comment on your post because they enjoy your company and genuinely care about what you write.
A lot of people have talked lately about deep meaningful connections. Steemit is all about that. So go ahead and make connections with those people. Talk for a few minutes and you might gain a follower.
Exceptions
There are certain exceptions of course. If I am engaged enough in a community I make it a point to go through the post promotions channel. Especially in Discord because I can see the Title, the image used and the first two lines of the post. So you have to make those three things pop out and draw the attention of a reader.
Another exception is what SteemEngine is doing. For you to be able to post a link in their post promotions channel you need to upvote and comment on one post there. They also have people that checks if it was done properly so it is but fair. Another thing I like is when you do these simple things their main account and those that trail it gives you an upvote so it's a win-win!

Socialise for Pete's sake
Made me smile ~ haven't heard that saying in yonks!
Great rallying post.
Engagement is key but what if you are busy generously engaging, upvoting and commenting, and still getting minimal reciprocal action?
This is a pet peeve of mine but one that I know I must let go of; for a person should not give in expectation of receiving ~ but still...
Please feel free to pop by mine it would make my heart sing a little.
xox
Hi it has been awhile! Haha yes I still sometimes use old phrases due to me reading so many books haha.
It happens that we are engaging like a hero and nothing happens. People ultimately decide how they would respond to engagement. They can appreciate it and maybe upvote your comment, best case scenario you get an upvote and you gain a follower because you left a great comment or worse they just ignore you.
I comment to about 17-25 different posts a day. Sometimes I win, sometimes I don't.
You also have to see if your content is resonating to the right people. This is the importance of communities.
Hope some of these help. My first month in Steemit I was doing terrible. Just cents for long posts but I just kept Steeming and networking.
Yes, exactly. ^^ Guilty me! I can only do a few at a time. Being in 4 active discord chat is super. ^^ I bet empire is most of the active ones especially in adult_swim. ^^
Ahahaha especially when @lunaticpandora and @underground is around it just gets so crazy there.
I better visit them one of these days. :)
Hi @maverickinvictus, I just stopped back to let you know your post was one of my favourite reads and I included it in my Steemit Ramble. You can read what I wrote about your post here.
Join us on Thursdays for Pimp Your Post Thursday at 11am EST or 7PM EST in the Steemit Ramble Discord or:
If you’d like to nominate someone’s post just visit the Steemit Ramble Discord
I saw it and thank you so much for featuring it.
I'm glad you liked what I wrote and it is a prevalent problem in the community.
We really need to encourage engagement. I will definitely drop by especially when I start promoting my charity @giftinkindph
I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said here. I’ve gotten over most of the post promotion channels simply because they are overloaded with posts. There’s no time to read through them all. You have a good point about @thesteamengine, they make you work a little harder for the promotion. That increase the value of each promotion since you have to read/upvote/comment on two more. @asapers is doing the same thing btw. I’m sure other groups are jumping in that train too. As they should, it’s a much better system.
Yeah in most places I don't drop it anymore and I just hope some people will just find my content somehow.
Indeed the Steem engine rocks and I have been able to discover new content and authors that I live.
I've heard if the @asapers curation and engagement group from @hitmeasap and I think that's the way for us to grow and make better communities if we are more engaged.
well written @maverickinvictus ... and very timely. I've been making some changes on my Steemit Ramble discord to try to encourage greater engagement and discourage the drop and run mentality that benefits no one... least of all the ones doing the dropping.
I have noticed it as moderator of several communities that people just don't engage enough and they complain that no one upvotes their stuff.
I'm pretty interested to learn your changes and wish you luck!
Choo chooo! Precisely right, The Steem Engine is rocking the show when it comes to post promotion. So much more effort and genuine interest in a channel flooded with great content.
You are spot on when it comes to making deep meaningful connections with others and it's always refreshing to hear that somebody else has similar views.
I haven't checked out Gina BOT yet but it sounds very helpful, thanks for that tip!
GINABOT is the bomb!! I agree the Steem Engine is doing a great job in creating engagement.
Yeah a lot of the people that I admire in this platform are doing a lot of engagement.
Thanks for your kick butt 'engage and connect' message, @maverickinvictus.
I'm a newb and felt commenting was more important to focus on in my first week. And I made more money from it than I did on my one post.
Now I have to balance both more in my second week and beyond but I'll continue to focus more on commenting to socialize and support Steemian fam.
btw, thanks for mentioning Steam Engine and for those other banners. Have upvoted and will resteem so I can find this post more easily and work through the other links you shared.
Stay Blessed!
Yeah I made more money from commenting as well and even now about 30-40 percent of what I earn is from commenting on other people's posts.
By commenting you establish connections. Discord communities are great and Steem Engine has a great spirit!
I have another post on communities that has other groups if you are interested.
Wow! That's high!
But it makes sense intuitively. If it works for a little itsy bitsy plankton in the first week, why wouldn't it work longer term? There are always new peeps and connections to make.
I'm not feeling as overwhelmed now as I did the first few times I went in to Discord. My head was spinning just like it does when I'm in a stadium full of peeps.
I'll spend more time figuring where my warm water is in there. Just went in to Steam Engine but have a post that I KNOW I won't be finishing tonight plus I wanted to start a quickie series.
Need even more clones now than I did before Steemit! ;)
btw, is your community post the 900 Followers one?
It talks about Crypto Empire, @steemitfamilyph and @promo-mentors...
Yeah there is just too many benefits in engaging and commenting on other people's posts
This has a couple more like the Writer's Block, Steemgigs and PAL. Great communities.

So sorry... not sure how I missed this but seeing it now. Thank you!
Ouch... it hit me! Lol
I did commenting and replying and I admit that. That's the first goal I had when started in this platform but it still not enough. This is a huge room that everyone has to explore further.
Yeah I think this is the basic that others really fails to do and upvoting is an option which some people has to understand and stop begging for it 😋🤗
Yeah Wilson networking and engagement is key to success in Steemit.
We have to work doubly hard because we have projects that will do a lot of good to other people.
Agree with that! Let us then enlarge our network and widen our circle of influence.
@maverickinvictus Sir! You have spoken well. Most people from my WhatsApp group that hasn't spoken to you before will just appear in my Private Chat sending me tons of links to upvote them. No courtesy at all. It's always so sickening.
Oh I get that a lot in Discord too. You just get people who want an upvote.
Rather annoying. At least engage with me and ask for my opinion or how to improve not just my upvote.
Hi lodi. Haha. I'm trying my best to engage in our community but my network connection won't let me. :( But when my net is faster, I am talking, commenting to other people here. :) I am honestly not so active in Discord but I will be. I am also doing school work (Dentistry stuffs) so I can barely check our group in Discord. But I am active in our Messenger gcs. :) I am trying to read all the infos you are sharing and trying to analyze and understand them. Haha. Great work here sir. Thanks!
I know man so just keep on steeming and connecting
I will man. Thank you!
