Poor Guy Lost The Fight

in #life9 years ago

Last night around 1:00 am I heard crashing sounds outside. I opened the back door to hear the sounds of a cat meowing threateningly and growling. The only cat of mine outside was Snowman and I instantly knew it was him. I walked outside and saw him in the dark with another animal fighting near my car.

I yelled and clapped my hands to scare them into stopping but it didn't work. I grabbed a bucked and threw it near them and they both broke it up and ran. The animal (another cat? or a raccoon?) chased after Snowman and cornered him under a different car. I ran and got a broom and yelled for my husband to come help.

The two got into another fight while I was grabbing the broom but thankfully the animal ran off when I came back towards them. Poor Snowman didn't fair well in the fight.

I could tell he was hurt but he growled when I tried to pick him up to bring him in the house. He went into the woods and I followed. It was 32 degrees out last night and I was wearing a nightgown with no pants and no shoes. I was afraid to leave his side to get clothes to wear. My feet were numb by the time we caught him.

He eventually came back out of the woods and crawled into a hole going into our shed. My husband ran to get a towel and we cornered him in the shed. We used the towel to pick him up out of fear he'd bite or scratch us.

I can tell today he's hurting. He's usually active and wants to go outside in the morning, but today he just stayed under my desk and slept. Poor guy...

Right now he's up for the first time today. He's limping a bit and I can see some spots where he was scratched. He doesn't seem to be so bad he needs a vet and I'll be keeping a close eye on him. I opened a can of tuna to help cheer him up and make sure he eats a good meal.

Ignore the dry cat food everywhere. My one year old got through the open babygate and proceeded to throw dry cat food all over the place. Snowman enjoyed the tuna and then found my daughter eating mac and cheese and stole some of her dinner. They enjoy sharing meals.

I have no idea what he was fighting. It was so dark. The growls almost sounded like a cat but in ways didn't. It could have been a small raccoon. The fur was dark and bushy. Whatever it is I hope it is gone. Snowman's never lost a fight before. He's a very big, strong cat and easily dominates in cat fights.

I'm just thankful he's okay and that I was able to stop things before he got hurt worse.

Glad he's okay and you chased off whatever it was. Sounds like a raccoon. Their growl is similar to a cat's. Snowman deserves all the treats he gets after defending his turf.

It could have been a raccoon. Since we're not close to any neighbors it's rare to see other cats around. Poor guy has never looked so pitiful.

Poor fella! Be sure to watch him for signs of infection. Both my garage / mouser cats died as a result of mortal combat with neighbor cats. Nothing seems to want to confront the big 'ol hound when hes out, though :-)

If I ever do get another cat, I'm totally going to create plastic battle-armor on the 3D printer for it...

Snowman needs some armor! I'm so sorry to hear about your cats. I really worry about them when they get in fights. I think this was the worst one I've seen.

It does like a raccoon. They are vicious fighters. I am sorry that Snowman got hurt. You said he was limping. Would Snowman let you examine his leg closely. Some times the raccoon will bite the hind legs and leave a very deep puncture wound which could become infected. I take it that Snowman has been vaccinated for rabies too. Where we lived in Canada we had more than our fair share of raccoons. They caused all sorts of problems.

I didn't see any bits in his leg. They were twisting and flipping and hitting hard objects like the car tires so hopefully it was a hit and not a bite. I hate raccoons. There are so many of them out here.

Coons can be pretty vicious.
He seems to be doing ok. Best wishes from Michigan of course, Marx.

Thank you! He's doing alright now. He's a bit more perky after resting all day.

So glad Snowman made it out OK. It's a good thing it happened so close to the house so you knew what was happening before it got more serious.

Do check him out for bites. Our dogs have been nipped a couple times. When we've found the bites and washed them out well we've had no probs but the one time we missed a bite it got pretty badly infected and there was a vet bill.

I am sorry got hurt. I hope has an speedy recovery! I wish you the best!

Poor kitty I'm glad he's able to eat and he got some much needed rest let me know how he is tomorrow

I'm really glad Snowman has you folks to take care of him! :D
