Plan released to populate Mars: This is how you could establish the first humans on the planet

The ideas to get to the red planet seriously, although they have certain conditions.

A group of scientists from the Swiss research center, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), has just released a plan that mentions a methodology for establishing the first human settlements on Mars. Of course, before populating the planet, several things are necessary.

The experts presented a guide to create a sustainable research facility on the planet, which would be the starting point to bring more humans. As explained from Astronomy Magazine, the first thing is to find a suitable place to establish the first facilities.

The researchers looked at the poles of the planet, since they contain ice deposits. On this, we have spoken on other occasions. These deposits could be extracted and turned into liquid water.

But this is not the only reason why settle down at the poles. They also harbor other natural resources, such as carbon dioxide, iron, aluminum, silicon and sulfur, which could be used to make useful elements, for example, for construction. Expectations are high, because if everything goes well you could even use hydrogen and methanol to create fuel.

As all this takes time, what would be the best option? They said, send robots first. When these machines have everything in tune, it would be prudent to send humans. The bet is that once this happens, travel a team of six people. This would ideally take place during the polar summer, when the crew could absorb 288 days in a row of Martian sunlight.

The robots would help build a base of three units: a central core, three surrounding capsules and a massive dome that arches. The central core would serve as a small room for the crew traveling.

The next step would be to send another group that would carry a system of cranes, designed to orbit the planet and transport material from space shuttles to the research base. The main problem that must be faced in this step is the weight of all the elements and the technical limitations of the current rockets to carry a lot of weight.

Although the plan is coherent, from the fact to the fact there is a big step. What it does, the plan sets an important precedent for trips to Mars.
