OLDEST MAN / LEGEND of Li Ching-Yuen

in #life6 years ago (edited)

197 or 256 years old.

He claimed to be born in 1736. That would have made him 197 years old at the time of his death in 1933.
Research of professor Wu Chung-chieh at Chengdu university found him to be born in 1677 through Chinese records, making him 256.

Born in Sichuan province of China, was able to read and write. He traveled at the age of ten with three elders to mountainous regions of Tibet, Vietnam, Thailand, Manchuria and other places gathering herbs.

He worked as an Herbalist, gathering and selling herbs. He became skilled in Qigong, a system of body posture coordination and movement. Including breathing and meditation.

A martial artist and tactical adviser to the Army.

Li Ching-Yuen was seven (7) foot tall. At the time of his death had survived 23 wives while being married to the 24, thou only 14 marriages were recorded. Believed to have 180 to 200 children with 11 generations while still living.

Army general Yang Sen of the National Revolutionary invited him to his home, where this 1927 picture was taken.

This claim of living for 200 years or more is viewed by gerontologists as fantastical. The oldest documented human was a 122 year old woman in France who died in 1997. http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/oldest-person

Retired from military at 78 after fighting in the battle of Golden River went back to the mountains gathering herbs. Because of his military service the Imperial Govt. documented his 100, 150 and 200 birthdays.

At the time of his death the older men in his village said their grandfathers knew him as a peer.

Near the time of this death it was noted that his eyesight was still good and the fingernails on his right hand were very long.

Asked why he had lived so long, he said the reasons were "having a quiet heart, sleep like a dog, walk like a pigeon and sit like a tortoise."

Li said to have a calm and peaceful mind with proper breathing techniques and of course good nutrition. He gave credit to his state of mind to be the main contribution to his longevity.

Fables live long and die slowly. Maybe over 100 but nothing near 200 yrs. old.

Yah gotta believe. :-)

If you can't prove he wasn't.... maybe he was ! That would be something if he really was over 200. 24 wives !!
