That one time I infringed on Pokemon for the sake of my kiddo

My eldest kiddo loves Pokemon. His favorite of all, is Lucario (who I introduced to him as a wee'en via Super Smash Bros)and while the costume isn't 100% on point, it worked well enough.

Kiddo is on the autism spectrum with severe ADHD; certain textures drive him nuts, so we nixxed the puff of fuzz on Lucario's chest.

Supporting the head is a baseball helmet-- used the bill to help prop up the poster-paper skin.

Pretty much every blue part of the costume is that poster board. The cones were made out of butcher's paper, spray painted silver and stuffed with fiber fill to help keep it's shape.

Four black socks were stuffed with fiberfill and attached to the back of the helmet. Two pairs of black tights were used; one worn underneath the fiber-fill-fluffed sweat pants, and the other pair were cur in half at the knees. The legs were stuffed with more fiberfill and sewn to a yellow sweater vest (over a yellow tee shirt) to create the shoulders. The remainder of the tights were used to make an undershirt of sorts-- hold them upside down, cut a circle in the crotch-- taadaa, now you have a neckhole. Cut little slits for thumbs in the legs, and taadaa, an undershirt which I attached little paper cones on the back of the hand.

Lucario's black markings on his face were recreated with black crepe paper and spray adhesive. Eyes were drawn out on the butcher's paper, cut out and attached. Wristlets made of the poster board and attached to elastic bands.

Easily, the hardest part of the costume was the tail. We couldn't find a way to keep the tail from drooping under it's own weight (even with wire augmentation) so we opted for simplicity and kept the tail optional (which is beneficial if one expects to be riding in the car for a while, so yay, bonus)

All in all, kiddo was happy with the costume, and now keeps Lucario's head on his wall. As a trophy? Not sure.
