ADRENALINE JUNKIES -- ADDICTED TO DANGER…
PUSHING THE BOUNDARIES
Testing your limits is good thing.., besides all the physical benefits, the confidence building.., it brings you one step close to your potential -- but knowing your boundaries might just save your life. And yet some people just can't help it -- they crave that rush of adrenaline that comes with staring fear, right in its horrible, ugly, sadistic, petrifying., unrelenting -- glorious face. There is NO BETTER FEELING. They're chasing that amazing high, looking for that one big thrill -- until the chute doesn't open or the front tire blows out -- and BAM.., a one-way ticket to a closed coffin.
This thrill seeking personality trait.., or death wish, is not for everybody…These extreme individuals (wackos) have been deemed Type T personalities -- but these Thrill-Seeking daredevils are often fueled by sadness or depression. And this extreme risk taking can bleed into other parts of their life that don't include strapping something to your back and throwing yourself off some giant skyscraper.., often these personality types will push the envelope when it comes to career and financial decisions...
Whether it's fear of failure, the need to over-achieve.., they all have one thing in common -- pushing the limits to the extreme, of what most
sane people would consider normal.
sane people would consider normal.
By facing down death time after time.., and walking away victorious, they feel that even in the end.., they will be able to cheat death -- they feel IMMORTAL. And others just believe they have a death wish -- or a really exciting assisted suicide… But just like any addiction.., the Post High Crash is right around the corner and without a mountain to hurdle yourself down, adrenaline junkies might search out or even create stressful situations in their everyday life -- just to get their fix…
Go Big or Go the Fuck Home
One of the best examples of a textbook adrenaline junkies was the film Point Break… Not only did these guys defy the laws of gravity by flying through the air, plunging to the earth with nothing more then a thin layer of nylon, or surfing extreme waves that any normal person would admire from afar… But in true adrenaline junkie form.., these guys let the fact they might have a little less gray matter in certain parts of their brain (some scientists believe this is why they take such risks) control their lives. And when they weren't risking it all on the week-ends, during the week they were robbing banks -- a risk taking, adrenaline producing behavior I don't recommend.
"What's life without a little risk…" -- JK Rowling
And while the base-jumping, high-flying daredevil and extreme sport fanatic are the typical stereotype of an adrenaline junkie.., they come in all shapes and sizes -- firefighters, police officers, the military.., and many other jobs that require you to, put it on the line.., are prone to be inhabited by one of these thrill seekers… The thought of sitting behind a desk -- the mundane, scares the shit out of them, they would rather run into a burning building, or base jump off the Sears Tower!
There's nothing wrong with taking risks -- heck, I even encourage the whole weekend warrior thing.., pushing your boundaries and accomplishing the unthinkable, Facing the unknown and just saying -- FUCK IT.., to get that rush of adrenaline, dopamine and endorphins.., some of the time. But a true adrenaline junkie is always on the hunt for that next high -- pushing the envelope even further each time, which can in reality, be the cause of great bodily harm.., and yes -- even death. Be safe.., or not!
