The Waiting Place

Feet up by the lake

“You can get so confused
that you'll start in to race
down long wiggled roads at a break-necking pace
and grind on for miles across weirdish wild space,
headed, I fear, toward a most useless place.
The Waiting Place...”

― Dr. Seuss, Oh, The Places You'll Go!

There is awful a lot of waiting. Waiting for certain outcomes. As if they are ever certain. The actual reason for waiting is fear of finding out, of failure. Would we still find ourselves waiting if the outcome was known? Even rationalize it, find excuses, trick ourselves into fake convictions to stay in the haven of the Waiting Place. We sit and sit there for days, weeks, months and years. We say at the right time I will move the mountains. Is there the right time? Programmed to be almost too careful. What if, but and maybe. We find time for those. Running controlled, hypothetical scenarios we learn very little from unless they are ever tested. How about some time for failing, through failure, stumbling growing at faster pace and going places?

There are different kinds of waiting of course. Right now, I’m waiting patiently for the soil to get warm enough to kick off the fourth year of my Tiny Garden Project. To wake up one morning and see the explosion of green everywhere, for that is how I will know it’s time. Deeper layers are still frozen. I dug up a small corner and hit the frozen bit. My strawberry and lavender plants seem to have survived the cold. Also some spring onions are showing up. I’m making a habit to munch on those after running. Birch sap is nice and refreshing too. Vitamins and all.

So excited to start all the planning and hopefully take you with on my gardening journey! You can have a look at the documentation of the first three years of the Tiny Garden Project here! ^^

For now I just put my feet up and wait for nature to wake up.

Whenever you post photos, I find myself wishing I were there.

How extensive is that forest? And how deep is the lake? Are there never any other people around?

Waiting... I think I might have reached a stage where I don't do much of it anymore. I do think about the future a bit more than I used to, which in the end is probably a good thing (I used to not think much about it at all), but I make my plans without too many expectations.

It's interesting... In Portuguese, the word for "wait", "expect", and "hope" is the same: "esperar"

There are forests all around and almost no people. Lake is quite big and deep. There are some stories about sunken plane from WWII there. Not sure if it's true, but quite possible.

Expectations can be harmful. Every time I find myself disappointed about something it is because I had expected something precise. Still in training. Haha!

Hoping is little bit different. It is not bad to be hopeful. More healthy I think :)

Nice prose-poem in the first paragraph 😀, I loved it and I agree with the ideas therein, patience sometimes seem futile. But well, some outcomes are actually certain. Like I'm sure nature is gonna wake up for your project soon, it seems to do that every year 😀.
Nice environment, I need a 2-3 hour drive to find natural water like that where I live. 😃

Thank you for stopping by @nevies

There are indeed things out of our control and things that are certain like seasons in nature. We also don't worry about them much. Nature will wake up, why worry? Death also is certain, but we worry about that one. Is it the unknown of what comes after? If at all?

Yes, I keep reminding myself of how lucky I am to be where I am. So grateful.

Really cool 😎 😎
