Meditation can cause the molecular response of our genes

A recent study suggests that activities such as meditation, yoga and tai chi may change the molecular response of the DNA to stress, causing many health problems.

Researchers at Coventry and Radboud universities reviewed 18 studies involving 846 participants in the 11-year range, according to ScienceDaily. Within these studies, they discovered a response pattern triggered by activities such as yoga and meditation - and how this beneficial effect on our health.

When an individual is in stress, a sympathetic nervous system is triggered, which is responsible for the fight or flight reaction, and which increases the production of molecule B (NF-kB). This at cellular level causes inflammation, which is for short-term situations when an individual decides during an escape and fight, well, and in the long run causes an increased risk of cancer, accelerated aging, and psychological disorders such as depression.

With these release methods, the amount of B (NF-kB) produced is reduced, and consequently the expression of the genes responsible for inflammation and the risk of developing health problems is reduced.
