How to Talk to the Phone Like a Crazy Person

in #life3 years ago

Crazy Talk Or Clear Communication? That's the question! In these tough economic times it's extremely important to make sure that we're communicating with our clients. It's essential to keep in touch and let them know that we're thinking about them. However, there are times when you may find yourself leaving the door open for communication by saying something like, 'I don't know' or 'I'll have to look that up'.

These are perfectly natural things that occur in conversation every day. However, when they become a habit they can actually become a turn off. When we say something without having all of the facts, we give the impression that we're not interested. And this is just flat out wrong. People want to hear from you and understand you.

One of the main problems with talking to people on the phone is that they don't get personal enough. They feel like a business conversation. It's important to be honest, but it's even more important to talk to someone who is honest with you and understands that you might not always have all of the details about a particular situation. So, if you're on the phone with a friend and you start talking about the details of an event, don't get into a detailed conversation about a time that happened years ago with that friend. You'll lose that friend and your relationship will suffer.

So, what should you do when you want to talk to someone on the phone? Go into the detail! Don't try to get everyone involved and just talk. Explain that you were hoping to hear what they had to say and that you've read through the article and were impressed with how well you wrote that particular article and now wanted to take some time and explain a few things.

However, be careful how much information you share. Give the person you're speaking with enough information about themselves to give you a reasonable idea of who they are. Don't give too much information unless they ask for it. You don't want to give them every single detail about yourself, and this is especially true in a professional environment. If you have nothing to hide, then there's nothing to worry about.

Don't discuss how "crazy" or "insane" you are. It's OK to mention these things, but don't make it obvious that you're impressed with their intelligence. If they call you one day and ask if you've read that article, it's OK to mention that you wrote it. However, don't say you loved it! Just give them the straight answer and you're done.

When you're talking over the phone with a friend, it's easy to be nuts. If you have a friend who is crazy like you, talk to them! Even though you may sound like you have no idea what you're talking about at first, it's usually worth a try. Sometimes, the crazy one is the one we end up liking!

Lastly, be sure not to lie. There's a big difference between what you say on the phone and what you do in person. If you're planning on lying or embellishing your accomplishments, you'll only be hurting yourself in the long run. So be sure you know what you're talking about.

Don't say something like "I know I'm good at communicating" if you can honestly say that you don't know. The thing about communication is that when it's done right, it should flow naturally. You don't need to pretend to be something you're not. Just keep it real and people will like it.

Say what you want without thinking about it. Don't say you want a red sports car if you haven't even been to a red car race in years. People tend to repeat what they see. If you see it on TV, you might say you want it, but if you see it in person, say you'd like to go to a car show. It's that simple.

Finally, be confident. You may think you're cool, but you never know how others feel until you start talking on the phone. If you think you're cool, you'll sound like you can handle anything thrown at you. On the other hand, if you believe you sound like a complete and utter lunatic, you won't be able to handle much.
