in #life7 years ago (edited)

For those traveling to Japan, staying at a Ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) is the best way to experience the Japanese culture.

See our post on the Hot Spring Ryokan Ginyu:

This ryokan really brought out the Japanese culture and customs.

When you stay in a Ryokan, one of the highlights is to experience the traditional multi-course meal “Kaiseki”.  It is known as the most expensive type of Japanese cuisine.  Why? Because kaiseki cuisine are always done with with meticulous preparation, beautiful presentation and high quality seasonal ingredients.

For our stay at Ryokan Ginyu in Hakone, we had both Kaiseki breakfast and dinner.

Our room included a traditional Japanese dining area, it was a great experience to enjoy a Kaiseki cuisine in private.  We also changed into their traditional yukatas outfit (Japanese traditional garment), we felt like a real Japanese couple hahaaa

A printed menu was presented before the meal, it definitely helped us to identify the food…hahaa.. loot at the long list..it was a big meal.

Highlight from our Kaiseki dinner:

The sashimi dish, the fish and shrimp were very fresh and mouthwatering.

Amazing tofu dish made with mountain spring water.

Western influence main course: Lobster with Foie Gras.

Happy to see the dishes just keep on coming…yummy…

Highlight from our traditional Kaiseki Breakfast:

Two heated pots with congee inside

Grilled fish for breakfast…hmmmmmmmm this might not be the best breakfast choice for a westerner, but it is actually a regular dish on the traditional Japanese breakfast menu.

Breakfast group shot…hahaaa

We can see the backyard from the dinner table.

Overall food quality was absolutely amazing, great taste and presentation. Happy we got to tried some authentic Japanese food with a creative twist of few fusion ingredients to satisfy the tourist …haaahaaa

Delicious looking food! Thank you for sharing the experience!

Thanks for the tip! Planning a motorcycle trip from Hokkaido to about as far south as I can get without swimming! This looks like a must do. Cheers!
