The Soviet people started the day with breakfast, between 7.30 and 8.30 am. It could be porridge (buckwheat, semolina or oatmeal), pancakes (buckwheat), black bread with butter and jam, or a sandwich with cheese, cottage cheese or sausage. Sometimes eggs were fried in butter. Some people drank raw eggs in the morning - they made a hole in the shell and sucked out the contents of the egg.

We had lunch between 13 and 14.00. They usually started with a salad (for example, beet salad), then ate soup or borscht, and later the main course - potatoes, noodles, or rice with fried or boiled slices of chicken or beef. Some additionally ate bread with sliced meat or smoked fish, cheese and sausage.

Dinner was between 18.40 and 20.00. The main dish is potatoes, pasta or rice with vegetables, as a side dish - smoked fish, canned food, boiled chicken, pork cutlets. Sometimes there was a roast or stew for dinner.

Canned food, stew, and industrial sauces were important ingredients in Soviet dishes. They were taken out "by acquaintance" and carefully kept until their "finest hour" struck. A fragrant soup was prepared from pink salmon, the stew was put into pasta, and sprats were used to make sandwiches.
