What good thing British did in India during their ruling era?

Made English a national language that enabled people across India to actually communicate with each other and with the rest of the world. A rail system that enabled trade and travel across the subcontinent and the possibility of economic development.

The parliamentary democracy that replaced monarchy and for the first time in its history since the republics of the time of the Buddha gave people some voice, however small, some say in how they are governed. Weakened the caste system and the stranglehold of the Brahmans and Kshatriya castes on the social life, and the economy and politics of India.

Unfortunately, none of these positive contributions of the British have been improved upon since the British left, and if anything, many of these progressive changes are being reversed.
