Off Grid Update: Used Laptop Batteries from AveRage Joe

In our recent adventures, John's been spending a lot of time watching various channels on Youtube on the topic, from Jehu Garcia to the british one Fully Charged. We also watch AveRage Joe and have finally received our shipment of batteries from him. It's just the same laptop batteries we've been recycling, so we can salvage the good cells for our powerwall.

It took some time but they're finally here, yielding more work in the form of unwrapping them (Holy crap Joe, how many rolls of tape did you use?) to breaking them open, testing and charging the cells so we know their capacity.

Eventually we'll string these together in packs on a rack most likely with the rest of the system. This will happen within a month actually, as we await more batteries, a transformer and our solar panels.

We have four boxes of these superpacked batteries to work through!
