DISTRACTIONS

I MISSED A SHOT! 😔

I dashed into the backyard to get something, then I sighted two snails "coupling" on a broken block 😂. I went back to get my phone so I could come take that killer shot. My data connection was left on and I had already cleared up all notifications. But when I picked up my phone, I noticed that, within just few minutes, new notifications from Facebook had already flooded in. Unconsciously I started going through the news feed and was held spellbound for about what seemed to be 5 minutes - but I think it was more. When the realization of why I went back to get my phone finally hit me, it was already late. The snails were all gone and I couldn't even see their trails. 😔 🐌

RETHINK

Life. Self. Purpose. Opportunities. So many times people miss great life transforming opportunities simply because they got distracted. Some distractions are so small and unnoticeable, but the resultant effect so great.
In our daily lives, we get distracted every other moment of the day, consciously or unconsciously, by things, people, and even life itself. Once you loose focus on the set parameters or target, that's distraction.

INSTANCES:

  • You want to complete a chapter of a book but you have just gone through 3 pages in 30 minutes because you have your gadget in your hand - you've been distracted.
  • You want to join a transit, then this friend bumps in on you, hulala you halt and strike a discussion - you just got distracted.
  • You are surfing the Internet then something so unrelated pops up and you click to open - you just got yourself distracted.
  • You are preparing your meal and your favourite sport or TV series just started. You unconsciously dash into a seat - that's how you get distracted.
  • You have a week to deliver a job, but you feel you can start and finish up two days to deadline. You engage in unnecessary things within the time frame - that's called distraction.

So how do we even avoid distractions?

  • Always try to stay focused
  • Keep reminding yourself every moment of the things you want to do.
  • Don't get too involved in many things at the same time. Take things in bits.
  • Set timers/reminders for every engagements of the day.
  • Try to adhere to your schedule.
  • Avoid being overly idle.
  • If it's not necessary don't talk about it.
  • If it's not important don't go for it.
  • If it's not useful don't get it.
  • If it's not worth the time don't give your time.
  • If it's not related to the thing in focus don't get it involved.
  • If it's too glittery have some doubts. It could be a camouflage.
  • Don't pay attention to irrelevant things.
  • Pinch yourself when you feel you are loosing it.
  • Like a sniper, always lock your target after gaining focus.

Well, at times we need some doses of distraction to avoid boredom. It can be so boring sometimes when we get too serious. When stressed, loosen up a bit, but just don't loose guard.
