Is it time for a "world" language?

in #life7 years ago

Wouldn’t it be great if you knew you could travel around the world and communication would never be an issue? Have you ever wanted to learn second language but struggle to pick one? Well why, with the world becoming smaller, haven’t we not constructed a “world” language?

I don’t think, with the tools we have available, that it would be that hard.

The language itself would need to be assembled by experts – I think by now we should be able to construct an easy to learn language, incorporating the best parts of all the major languages.

Once this is done, the major countries could officially adopt it as the official second language and make it mandatory to be taught in school starting from primary school. World bodies could also give cut of times for implementing the language (think UN, World Bank) say five years or so. This gives it a bottom up as well as top down approach.

Now, with a bit of funding from countries and organizations, providers will be brought on board to get some content going in the form of websites, films and music – all, of course, could be distributed cheaply through the internet.

For those that know, yes we did have Esperanto – probably came a century too early – and it really needed the buy in of a few powerful nations to get traction.

Most of us learn a second language at some time – why not all learn the same one?
