Tinder Photo "Guide" for Women
These couple of weeks, I’ve been playing with Tinder, the dating app. I think it would be interesting for you ladies to hear opinions from a guy’s perspective. So, in this article, I’m trying to give my personal opinions on the photos inside Tinder.
This is my personal opinions. It may be different with other guys based on cultures or age. I’ll try to make it as general as possible.
♦ Six slots. Tinder provides six slots for photos. You should maximize it fully. Don’t put six similar photos inside. Show different clothes, different poses, different angles.
♦ Scenery only photos. If you like the scenery, post it on Instagram, then link your Instagram to Tinder. Tinder is a dating / relationship app. You may post a description that you like beaches, but never post a scenery photo. It shows that you do not know what you are doing.
♦ Face is too small compared the background. Sometimes I found photos that only 10% of the photos showed the face, making it very hard to see. To me, it shows that you are not confident enough about your own face. How could guys respect you, if you are not even confident enough to show your face.
♦ Face is too big / only partially visible. Sometimes only half of the face is shown. Sometimes it’s purposely taken in a way that only 75% of the face filled the photo entirely like an extra zoom. Although it may be considered as an art, if you have only one photo or all of your photos are similar to that, again, to me, it showed that you are not confident enough to “display” your face.
♦ Wearing sunglasses in all photos. I would assume there is something wrong with your eyes. Maybe you have slanted eyes? Got a scar? Got an eye disease?
♦ The same duck face (or other similar pose) in all photos. I would assume there is something wrong with your lips.
♦ The same angle in all photos. I would assume there is something wrong with your other part of face.
♦ Majority of your photos are showing your body features or silhouette. I would assume you are on Tinder “for fun” and not searching for a serious relationship. I know that you are sexy, but if you want me (a guy) to approach you in a serious way, try to put less of those sexy photos.
♦ Low quality pictures. Try to avoid blurry or grainy photos. Ask your friend who has better smartphone camera to take your picture.
♦ Photoshop / app filtered photos. It’s great to have one photo that is app filtered, those with bunny ears or tiger moustache. It shows that you are cheerful. However, you need the other photos to clearly show your face, shoulder and chest.
♦ Upside-down / other rotated pictures. Unless when it has an artistic value, an upside-down picture made me assume that you like to play tricks on people. Which may or may not be a bad thing.
♦ Group photos. If you have a great photo, but it’s a group photo, then blur the other faces. You should be the center of attention. Remember that Tinder is a dating / relationship app. You don’t want to have a “match” who asked the number of your friend on that photo, do you?
♦ Not smiling. Except for trained models, not smiling might ruin the “image” you are trying to show. It is generally acceptable that a smiling woman is more beautiful than those who aren’t.
♦ Facial hairs. Although it’s very normal and unavoidable for some women to have a little facial hairs such as moustache, it is better to shave it clean for Tinder photo. Tinder is a “storefront” for you to show your best feature. Some guys might be turned off by those fine mustache, some guys might find it sexy. However, you still lose some matches because of it.
