Intestinal microflora
The importance of the microflora of the human digestive system. List of functions of microflora, without which human health is impossible:
- Stimulation of immune activity;
- Antagonistic action against foreign bacteria due to synthesis colicins, alcohols, hydrogen peroxide, lactic and other acids, fatty acids;
- Increased assimilation of Fe, Ca, vitamin D (due to the creation of an acidic environment);
- The destruction of the excess of digestive secretions - enterokinase and phosphatase;
- Participation in metabolism:
- convert choline into tetramethylamine; bilirubin - in urobilin;
- decompose proteins to indole, skatole and phenol - resulting in improved
peristalsis; - synthesize 9 vitamins - pyridoxine, riboflavin, nicotinic and
pantothenic acid, cyanocobalamin (B12), vitamin K. Biotin, folic acid
acid and thiamine provide the body with almost 100%; - synthesize essential amino acids and vitamins, promote education
leukocytes;
cause activation of thyroid function (affect gas exchange) and
increased renewal of cells of the intestinal mucosa; - fix nitrogen of air and promote protein synthesis;
- synthesize or convert cholesterol into components (sterbilin,
coprosterol, desoxycholic and lithocholic acids), depending on the need
organism; - affect the absorption of water from the intestine - increase absorption.
(Data from the Institute of Ecology and Medicine, Kiev, Ukraine).
Weight of microflora is 2.5 - 3 kg.
