Discriminating against left handedness: What sense does it make?

In a world filled with dictates of what and how things should be done: A world that has defined what one should be or do.

The man against the grain can only be tagged an outcast. And he moreover, has no place in the grand scheme of things because he simply cannot fit in.

One of these troubling issues is left handedness. The prejudice towards these special set of people has been an agelong phenomenon.

It became only more worse in the nineteenth century when studies relating human mind to the composition of their body revealed some correlations between left handedness and savage behaviours.

This is consequent on the belief that the right hand is the hand of God while the left only portrays evil and it's associated misfortunes.

Little wonder the world is tuned and shaped for right handed people. Most tools in the world are equally made for those that are right handed.

But what exactly is wrong with left handedness

How many children out there have been subjected to the tortuous pain of changing from left to right,because it is considered rude, weak and unclean?.

How many school teachers has because of their own comfort forced a child to writing with right, when all that is needed is tilting the book top right instead of top left?.

My Younger sister was a victim of this act and she was only left ambidextrous afterwards. Her right hand only functions for heavy lifting and precision while the left is used for most menial activities.

Why do I not blame the prejudice?

Ignorance is the bane of prejudice against these set of unique people. How else does one explain to someone trapped in the dogma of culture of rightist that severe complications could arise in the brain development of a child that was beating into using the right hand.

#####According to a professor of psychology and medical education at the University College London, he posits that Left handed people have collectively risen above average quota in producing high achievers.

He also argued that left handedness has a lot to do with the way the brain works. That is, their brain works in a way that it handles multiple activities. Where a right handed person uses one side of his brain, a left hander uses both. So, why put unnecessary pressure where there is supposed to be none?

Let not religion,culture, tradition answer for you. But look within and answer yourself and embrace the uniqueness deposited in each and everyone.

To all left-handers, do not be bullied into right-handedness. You are only 12% in a world that fears whatever is different. Eat with your left, wave with your left, shake hands with your left, write with your left and if need be pledge allegiance to your country with your left. And who says LEFT IS NOT RIGHT?
