I Love my Cat as Much as I Love my Best Friends.

Yeah, I am one of those people.

I would like to decorate this post with little comics of my and Mouse but I am in my bed and haven't slept in over 30 hours due to insomnia so instead I will litter it with photos of me and my cat. I know it isn't a popular opinion and I have even seen people get heated, angry even, at hearing someone profess their love for their pet as being equal to their love for their friends but for me, I really do feel this way.

This became especially clear after I lost my human best friend. It's been almost two years since that tragedy and now I lovingly watch my cat sleep and remember that she is about 9 years old and I get panicky imagining her death. This cat has been by my side for 9 years. She has been through almost every break-up and comforted me I swear! This cat doesn't like to be held but when I was going through my worst break up ever she laid down next to me and let me hold her for hours. She knows when I am sad and she is clearly concerned.

She also adds such joy to my life. Being sick and confined to my room would be much more hellish without this little warm, vibrating, purring ball of fur. She is right now kneading a blankie next to me with her one back paw up on my leg. She likes one foot touching me while she kneads. She has a little "beauty mark" on one of her back paws and I love it. I love how she's always had one squinty eye. I love how she never shuts up. I like waking up to her eating my hair. I photograph her constantly. I have probably hundreds of photos of her now and I fully intend to have a photo album for her as well as framed pictures on my wall.

Nobody could convince me that my love for this cat is anything but unconditional and it often feels I get the same in return. Though anyone with a cat knows it is really one-conditional love. If I quit feeding Mouse she would probably eat me alive but my love for her is completely unconditional. She has always been a problem cat since day 1. She used to knock over trash cans, break every glass object, tear down my curtains, poop on my pillow. She was a demon cat but I knew once I adopted her that she was my cat until she died and eventually I realized I loved her as much as any of my other best friends. I will happily take the stigma of crazy cat lady.

Perhaps my love for my cat is strengthened by the fact that I am now disabled and isolated and she's pretty much a service animal. The worst service animal ever, sure but she enriches my life and keeps me sane and has kept me alive during times I was convinced I have no other reason to live than to take care of my cat. She has saved my life.

So, yeah I am one of those people that calls their pet family and I mean it.

This made me smile so hard. At my peak of cat ownership I had 11 cats, we had a huge house with five cats and one got pregnant before her spay appointment and had six kittens. I was in Heaven. My parents were not, lol. As soon as I'm living independently I'll be adopting.

What happened with all the cats? :O I hope they all got homes. :) Unfortunately my cat is TERRIBLE to all other cats so I am stuck with just my one grumpy moody love. :) I dream of having more pets but I can only do that when she dies and the thought of her dying is terrible and traumatizing. So... But I know one day I will have more pets even though I wish that wasnt the case so she could be young and healthy forever. :)

They did! A few of the older cats ran away and we have a large coyote population so I don't think they made it :( but all the kittens got homed out

Friends and family are cheaper than pets. :)

I have no family, my friends are hundreds of miles away and I am confined to my bedroom due to disease so I think the price is well worth it. :) But yes they are a life time (their lifetime at least) commitment that costs money.

Luckily there's Steemit to make your life a lot better!

Oh yeah I love steemit. :)

I hate it when people get a pet all willy nilly without considering the cost and then give them away. -_-

Oh I agree. I keep telling my dog to get a job. Then she sleeps. Bleh. LOL.

haha I am always telling Mouse to start pulling her own weight and letting her know she's a freeloader. XD

What's so interesting to me is that human domesticated animals to actually have jobs. Cats caught mice, dogs protected livestock, etc.

In the end, the pets actually domesticated HUMANS!

What a wonderful creature! Mine is walking around and purring happily.

hehe Thanks. She knows it. :D I am glad your kitty is happy too. Mine is on her special pillow on my bed napping. :)

I'm sorry you didn't get to sleep for 30 hours. I like cats more than dogs. I've had my current cat for 5 years now. I think she was about 2 years old when I got her out of Pets and Pals. Sure you could love your cat more than some friends, but then I am one of those people with a cat.

Glad to be meeting all these other cat people in steemit. :D I was just feeling super mushy today looking at her.

Your cat sounds like a ton of fun. I am glad you have her!

Thank you. She can be really annoying but I can't imagine my life without this cute, annoying, little furry monster. :)

Sometimes being annoyed by those we love gives life flavor!
I gotta tell you something hilarious. Since I have been following you I have been reading your name as "laural e mons." I just figured out it is "Laura lemons" and I am mind blown. Lol!

i love cats too. they are mysterious creatures.
i cracked up last week watching cats getting a bath. they hate it don't they?

cats are awesome, and pets are family, 'nuf said! but then again, you had me at "I love my cat" lol

haha :D I like you.

We have cat sat for our friends on repeated ocassions. Unfortunately, I appear to be slightly allergic. :( Most recently, we cat sat some Abyssinians and they were gorgeous.

We really want to adopt, but with my allergies, we have to ensure that we get something that is hypoallergenic these rarely come up at the shelters so we're waiting for the right moment to rescue a kitty!

Can't wait until we can!

Aww...such a cute kitty kitties! :D Freakin adoreable!

And great post too! I remember giving my cat 'a voice' in a post some time back. It's such fun point of view to write from! at least a while. :P

My cat and I have tge same kind of connection. My brother gets VERY offended if I slip up and compare his baby girl to my cat, but honestly, she IS my equivalent right now. When I have no one, I still have her. When she has a nightmare, I pet her till she stops twitching. When I cry, she cuddles with me and purrs me to sleep. It's frustrating when human loved ones can't grasp the concept of a relationship with pets!
