A new business flourishes in Switzerland

Since a 2012 decree, cannabis containing less than one percent THC is legal in Switzerland. From then, several people began to work on genetic crosses in order to have plants being below this limitation.

About 3 years after this 2012 order, companies selling this type of cannabis began to open throughout Switzerland. At this very moment, it's also possible to find it in the tobacco shops of all the cities.

The main argument of this new business, is to give sick people the opportunity to ease their pain with legal cannabis. Indeed, this new legal cannabis has all the properties sought for a medical use without having the psychoactive side of the THC. In addition, it may help to reduce or stop the consumption of cannabis with a high THC content.

The great work of geneticists was therefore to lower the THC rate below 1%, while maintaining a high CBD rate (between 10 and 20%). Unlike U.S.A where the term "medical marijuana" is used for everything, and we know that the cannabis sold under this label often contains a high percentage of THC. Which is problematic, of course there are oils and others containing CBD and little or no THC. But the real problem is the THC content that is too high in the flowers sold under the medical label.

Further research needs to be done, but right now we can say that high THC content has harmful side effects, especially on memory. That is why the new projects that are developing in Switzerland are really interesting. Indeed, CBD is one of the most therapeutic molecules in cannabis. And again further research must be done on it, but it would seem that in addition to its medicinal qualities for diseases like epilepsy among other things, it would also have the power to help reduce tobacco consumption.

So it seems to me that this new business has good days ahead. Anyway, it's important to inform people about the problems that can arise from the consumption of cannabis with high THC content. But on another side, it's also necessary to inform about the therapeutic qualities of the CBD and to allow all those in need to be able to find it legally.

Information and prevention should prevail over repression.

thank you for this nice piece of information. always good to know how this topic is being dealt with in different countries.

although i have never tried cannabis ( you know for what situation :P ) from what i have read it can help in a lot ways. It can be used as medical and protein to even create clothes but there are a couple of companies like every time that sells other kind of things and dont want the rise of cannabis for obvious reasons (money!) i hope everything that benefits the society to rise

Thanks @filotasriza3, indeed money was probably the main purpose of the repression of the cannabis. But now things are changing, and people are able to sell it and its derivatives with legal business. I guess it'll help to make further research on its properties which are numerous and full of potentials !

they have understand (to some extent ofc) that restaining some things like cannabis only leads to opposite result! Moreover nowadays more and more people are openminded so it helps those kind of new business to stand a chance!

Very interesting, didn´t know about that decree. So you say you can get the sub 1% weed in ordinary tabak shops? I´m frequently in Switzerland, so I will check it out :-)

Yes, you should find it in most of tobacco shops, but there is also shops growing in the big cities, with a probably higher quality and organic cannabis (although a bit more expensive).
