Rabbit-giants received their nickname due to the impressive size. These are unique animals of a different color, which were withdrawn relatively recently. They differ not only in their large weight, their large physique, but also in their rapid reproduction and high vitality.

For the first time such animals appeared in the middle of the last century on the Poltava land. The elimination of this breed was facilitated by the critical state of the gastronomic part of the lives of people living on the territory of the Soviet Union. Therefore, it was decided to compensate for the deficit of meat products on the shelves of stores with the help of such dimensional animals. But breeders wanted these animals to have the ability to multiply quickly and had excellent health. Therefore, crossed large-sized rabbits imported from other countries (they were distinguished by rapid reproduction), with their local ones, which were distinguished by great viability. As a result, the breeders received large rabbits with ideal characteristics.

The German giant. The representative is otherwise called Rizen, which in German means "huge." But at once it was not possible to get a giant beast to German breeders. Thanks to careful selection, rabbits gradually added weight, reaching 12 kg, and the body was more than 70 cm long.

In rabbit breeders, this breed takes second place in popularity. The color of pets can be different: gold, blue, white. With participation at exhibitions, experienced rabbit breeders choose this type of rabbit.

The advantage of a representative of this species is the fitness of rabbits to low temperatures, resistance to diseases. They also have good fertility, do not tolerate dirt. Very often females do not want to take care of their numerous offspring.

The Gray Giant. The great popularity of rabbit-giants across Russia and other countries of the world forced breeders to breed subspecies of these animals. The pioneer of this breed is considered to be a gray rabbit, bred on the territory of Russia. He got the nickname because of his color. In comparison with other representatives of the breed, gray rabbits reach rather large sizes. The weight of the animal can range from 5 kg to 7.5 kg. The positive side of the giant gray color is its unpretentiousness in food, care. Such giants are inferior in meat output to other species of the breed, but they are well established on Siberian farms under cold climatic conditions. It is easy to care for pets at home.

Today there are several species of such animals: German, white, blue, Belgian (flamer), gray and others.

Rabbits breed sheep. The nickname of representatives of this species was due to the unusual shape of the skull. Muzzle they have a resemblance to lamb. There are many subspecies of the breed: French, German, English, Meissen. Such pets weigh 5-8 kg, are distinguished by good nature, calmness. They have long ears, very soft, thick fur. These rabbits do not hear well, the reason is the length of the ears and their non-standard structure. Because of reduced hearing, pets are less frightened.

Decorative types of giant rabbits can be safely maintained at home. They are unpretentious in food and care. For such animals a wooden cage is needed in which the pet will be warm. Do not use cells with a mesh floor. Because of this, the animal can injure the feet. Therefore, choose the floor of the boardwalk. A cage for keeping a pet should be voluminous, where one individual will live and move freely. For immature breeds, small cells can be placed. They must be equipped with places for food and water. There is also a place for the female, which will produce the cubs. Rabbits can be kept outdoors in warm climates. In winter, you need to create certain conditions that will protect pets from drafts. Severe frosts can cause frostbite, so the cells are thoroughly insulated. Ideal conditions for the removal of giants are equipped sheds, basements. For the purity of the cells you need to follow regularly to avoid various diseases of the pet. It is necessary to lay sawdust on the floor of the cage. They absorb moisture well, unpleasant odors. Change sawdust is required once a week. Twice a year, the cell disinfection procedure should be carried out with a solution of chlorine or hydrated lime.
