The Panic Begins
Hurricane Irma at Cat 5 so far.. days off shore!
Is the new Category 6 designation eminent?
Well CBS News reasoning states, Irma will not become a category 6 as there is no category 6 designation! What lunacy... why yes it is, as Irma has reached wind speeds of 180 Miles Per Hour, already.... above category 5, so shall we call it a level 5.1? CBS wake up and inform people correctly!
And people rush for Prepatory Supplies... too late!
Most supplies like lumber to board up windows, food, water, emergency lighting, batteries, cash, generators and more... but most are sold out!
People Never Learn
Being prepared is not just a trip to the supply outlets, it is a continual process so that when a storm or other disaster (natural or state run), you do not need anything... you already have it.
As people panic the first problem is in obtaining goods, then the escalations in people rushing blindly and traffic, accidents and other ensuing problems multiple.
Next is the emotional set where people in panic begin to loose control of their emotions and self control... logic is way gone by that time.
Next starts the violence, people that are so blinded by panic loose control and will even employ violence against other panicked souls to get what they need!
Preparing is and has always been a human trait
Yet it has been stripped from most as all believe that modern society is peaceful and safe.
You must always prepare for shortages of food, water and supplies (in accordance with your environment), alternate plans for hunkering down or escape. You must prepare for mobs of emotional, panicked and violent mobs... traffic jammed roads that block escape, running your vehicle on an 1/8 of a tank as you did not keep the tank full, no bug out bags as you will never need them,firearm as you have never needed one before.
The lists go on from personal to family to elderly to even pets... few people ever prepare.
Sorry to rant, but we see it time and time again, people never prepare.
What is the worst that can happen if you prepare? That you ave money and time as you dollar cost average (at the least) with ever escalating costs!
Let this be warning
As bad as Harvey was, Irma could be worse... and what about that global financial crisis... that storm is brewing, will be higher than category 6 in affects and it is eminent.
MSM has been proving it's ineptitude or deviousness for many a year. Something I also picked up today is that Irma may just have cleared a path for Jose... like clearing a path.

You have that right... the most aggravating part this time for me was that CBS is trying to downplay it and using mind numbing absurdity to do it.

I have been for a number of years... but searching for info as we have family and friends in South Florida, it popped up. CBS (Cant Be Serious).
That's interesting - it's seemed for years that the MSM OVERPLAYS every potential weather event. I mean, if you listen to them every snowstorm is the blizzard of the millenium that we will never dig out of and half of us are likely to die. Then the storm comes and we get 6" of snow or some such thing. I wonder if years of doing this are really beginning to take effect, because when I hear them say anything at all about the weather I tend to have a hard time not dismissing it as their usual hysteria.
That said, you are absolutely correct that people do not prepare for catastrophes. I watched people in the path of Harvey have weeks of warning and then when they had to evacuate there was almost literally nothing in their house either packed up or placed up high where potential flood waters might do less damage. If there's anything I've taken away from that situation, it's that the preparations we have already made need continual attention and refining because you need to take into account things you may not have thought of before - like having a plan to get things up off the floor in case of flooding.

Well, let's see what happens with Irma before looking too much to Jose. We've had incredibly active hurricane seasons before where it looked like we were going to just get hammered over and over and we didn't and others where it looked like not much was going to happen and then we really got it. Weather is a tough thing to predict...but I guess if I were anywhere along the Gulf or even the lower East Coast I'd been preparing my house and getting my belongings packed and way up off the ground just in case.
I think the US is safe, Bermuda may be a target
No matter where it hits, there will be tragedy and the same panic. But what will happen is that it will solidify the mindset in people (well until the next time), that why prep if it is not already on you.
It's always better to be safe than sorry because every life matters.

Wise words.... I just posted a blog myself on how to can dried pasta. "Prepping" doesn't necessarily have to be about hiding in a bunker buried in your back yard!!! Prepping should be about not having to wrestle with the unwashed masses in times on disaster!!!
You know many (including family) think that my carrying everyday even in our local small town is nuts. But from my view, being prepared is an encompassing process... you are either all in... or you are missing something.
