My work will be valued when I’m dead...
and not a second before!
Because while I am alive I pose a continuous threat, but in death people will deem it valuable to the community.
I know this is morbid.... and a sore topic for most Artists, but it is the rule with few exceptions. However knowing this helps those less delusional, to persist and make their contribution to society none the less.
The Reasons are simple
Scarcity. Yes this time immemorial attribute not only drives markets, it is at the core of the human soul. We all know if there is only so much to go around and no further production, the fame and value escalates.
While the Artist is still alive those watching, seek definition. For the artist, this is an evolution not a set parameter, save a few (and that is what helps them achieve fame in life). As example Picasso was defined, as were Dali, Peter Max, etc. when the artist reaches definition, people can make their decision (like or not). They see that their defined method will not change much... but for those ever evolving, people wait for their definition (not apparent until cessation).
Galleries look for that definition, so those that have defined their work and only vary it slightly... are for them a better product.
The Threat
Threat. for competitors and compatriots alike, is perceived as they, may not be able to keep pace.
Most will not see that once a new direction is found, it would help many more exploring in that direction. But it scares most as the fear of being passed by or a follower is far too great for most to cope with.
Even if they watch, learn and adopt your artistry, they will not praise or validate as they perceive it will lessen their worth and or value. They are also caught in a self mode, not wanting to highlight others works.
Your Destiny
If you are caught in this cosmic vibration, fear not, live and create as you are drawn as that is the vibration you most thrive in.
And let’s face it, yielding value is far more important to life going forward,
