I Can't Wish You Anything

in #life8 years ago

Wishes are nothing more than the continuation of archaic rituals that are based on spells, no different than those of religion, superstition and folklore. They are curses but in a good way. For example you can wish many years to someone but what good they will be if they spend them suffering in bed? You can wish good health but what good they will be if the person is miserable? At best, wishes are naive desires.

It is times like these though that we should note the complexity of human nature and how we come to do and express certain things like wishes even if we don't endorse them intellectually.

Whether we endeavor on subjects of religion, science or politics, humans do what they do and say what the say mostly for social bonding. This is why an atheist, a politician or a scientist will all summon a wishing spell for good health even if at any other day of they year their intellectual tactic will be totally different.

We like to think of our entities as something complicated and even sacred. We are far from that. We like stories, gatherings, connection. We are no different than our ancestors that roamed the savannas 50.000 years ago that looked upon the stars and created stories, gazed at nature and tried to harness it, self reflected and tried to bond.

Through the ages we have been defined by our toys and the way we share them. Nothing else.

Grin. That describes why I went for a slighly more convoluted wish this time.
Still, happy new year, Kyriacos! 8-P
