A Gittery Generation

In the movie "The Big Lebowski" there is a character which seems to have captivated the hearts of millenials. Part of the reason is that most people wish to be like him but very few can. We care too much about what other people say, what we eat, what we see. We are too anxious and we can't help but take ourselves too seriously. We are perfectionists and this is killing us inside.

Life is simple and this is rather easier said than done. But really, life is simple if one sticks to the basics and stops overthinking it. Most people feel paralyzed by the unlimited options offered around them and thus they remain undecided. Over abundance has become an anxiety agent that we inject ourselves on a daily basis. This makes every decision seem impossible to make since choices are so close to one another.

This of course also creates dread and pessimism that leads to crippling depression and of course idealisation of pop culture figures like "the dude". This guy, in the midst of all trouble seems to have figured it all out. Life for some reason comes to unfold on its own, and however shitty something might be, everything seems to fall back into place. Doing nothing proves to have a better effect than actually taking action.

On the other hand, sitting and doing nothing also creates a culture of dependency and privilege. We wait for everything to fall onto our laps without us batting an eye. And this pretty much explains our culture. Anxious, apathetic, paralyzed and overwhelmed by options. And "the dude", our only hope. A modern Jesus for us all — but in much the same way — very few can follow the chosen one's path.

Key is to know yourself and do things that makes you happy. Btw, movie is awesome.

Verry good post

Yeah, most people really care too much of what others think about them. And doing nothing seems like the option most choose in hopes that something good will come their way just because they waited long enough. I think, the longer you wait, the more you miss out on life. And you're just getting older and older. I realized this and I stopped waiting for some miracles to come my way. If I continue waiting, I'm going to die without achieving anything in life...

Actually that is the trend of people these days, nobody wants to go out there and do what it takes to reach awesome heights but they reach want to have things going their favor.

I enjoyed this it's amazing

Spoilers below.

The Dude starts the movie wanting his rug, and finds himself not needing the rug by the end of it.

Everyone on steemit wants a piece of the rug, and many users come from places in life where selling even a few threads can feed their family for a day. As long as people in the world require a source of material wealth to fill actual needs in their everyday lives interactions on steemit will remain hollow. Steem itself is scarce, and so are resources on planet earth.

This competition over the rug enables the animalistic, face-saving, egotistical behavior that is the antithesis of Dudeism, and until those who have enough reduce their desire for more and those who lack enough have their basic needs met we will always be asking for our own little rugs.

in short no one cares, nobody is going to try by himself, everyone is expecting all the things from others which donot works every time, loved this post, thank you

It's soo simple and soo difficult at the same time. Great stuff.

Makes sense! Thanks for such a well written succinct post.

This is what keeps me anxious. Lol
I've yet to watch The Big Lebowski (I know, I know, what a loser), but it's on my list.
