3 Simple Rules every Workout Routine Has to Follow

in #life7 years ago

Everyone starts their journey the same

Everyone embarking on their goal to lead a healthier and more fit life starts out with the desire to become better, through effective workouts and nutrition. I’ve focused a lot on the nutritional aspect of becoming more fit without giving a lot of attention to the workouts. Today I’m going to give you my 3 most important principles for finding and maintaining an effective workout routine. Hopefully they can help you on your journey to lead a more happy healthy life!

Progressive Overload

This is just a fancy way of saying that your workouts should gradually get harder over time. There are tons of different ways to accomplish this. If you like to lift weights you can gradually work up to heavier weights, or you could even add in more sets and reps with the same weights. If you like to run you could choose to run, farther, longer, or even faster. It’s important to increase the difficulty of your workouts, because as you make progress your workouts will gradually become easier, so in order to continue to make progress you need to make sure you make them harder as you get stronger/faster/more conditioned.

Autoregulation

Another overly fancy term I know. This one just means that you should have the ability to adjust the difficulty of your workouts based on how you feel that day. As a college student I spend plenty of nights up till 3 A.M and awake at 7 the next morning. Those days would be hard for me to really push myself hard, so I make sure to not kill myself in the gym if I’m not feeling it. The flip side of this, however, is that on days where you’re feeling great, don’t be afraid to really kick it up a notch and push yourself. This will allow you to make sure you get the workout that’s best for you and your needs every single time you workout.

Consistency

Wait a minute... Why is this one bigger than the others? Must be a typo
Consistency is THE most important thing for any workout routine PERIOD
The flat out truth is that you simply won’t be successful unless you are consistent with your training. I don’t care what kind of workouts you do Consistency is more important than anything else. I think that’s enough bold, hopefully you get what I’m trying to say by now.

Bonus Tip!

My number 1 tip for being as consistent as possible when starting a new workout routine is to pick something you Love. If you have the choice between an activity that burns 100 calories an hour or one you love that burns 40, you should pick the one that burns 40. The best workout is the one that you will actually do. Don’t get caught up in all the specifics when consistency is something you struggle with. Pick something you actually want to do and apply all 3 principles and enjoy seeing all the progress towards your goals I know you can make
