In terms of self protection I believe the main goal is self preservation... so while fighting skills are a must to survive, communication skills might be a better technique for long term survival. Like maybe after you kick their a** you negotiate a friendship deal with them! Awesome post:)

So how do you prevent conflict? Is that the question we need to answer as a society? Is it acceptance of others? I think it is more than that. Maybe finding understanding in others, if we can understand where their values and culture comes from then we can find common ground and resources. A major city is embracing this theme and that is Toronto! I travelled there this fall and was impressed by the atmosphere and culture and modern museums. Their biggest achievement in global love is a museum that embraces the Middle East heritage and Muslim religions.
