Shopping should be fun, but shopping with a credit card often doesn’t give us peace of mind. Find out what security measures credit cards can have that protect you from fraud.

1) Chip

This is a security feature that is used on all current credit cards. It provides you with a personal identification number, which is much safer than just your signature.

2) Personal Picture

Where the signature is often overlooked, a picture draws attention. In a second a cashier can see if the person in the picture is actually you. This way a photo adds a bit more safety to your credit card.

3) Temporary Credit Card Number

Of all the benefits my credit card offers, this is the one I like the most. I think you will agree when I say nobody should be able to store my credit card information online. And by using a temporary credit card number no one will. You can easily request a temporary number for a set amount and once you’ve paid that amount, the credit card number becomes invalid.

4) Online Account Statements

Also handy is the possibility to check your credit card statements online. No need to wait for the mail to arrive anymore, now you can immediately check if they deducted the right amount of of your credit card balance and inform the credit card company if there was an error made.

5) Alarm Service

In the event that anyone steals your credit card details - despite all these security measurements - you can be alarmed of abnormal usage of your credit card. You can for example let your card alarm you whenever someone spends more than €200 with it, but also when the due date comes closer and so on. All these settings can be pesonalized for the best comfort.

             

All of these security features are somehow common, but few credit cards have all five of them.
